Remember way back in the day when there were no cell phones? Almost sounds weird to say, as if we were living in a different dimension now. But the only phone we had was the one mounted to the wall or sitting on a desk, attached to a cord. Now do you remember what you said to your family member when you answered the phone, but the person on the other end of the line didn’t want to talk to you, but your mom or dad, or brother or sister? You said something like, “It’s for you!”
Well, that’s exactly what I want to talk to you about today. The Call – it’s for you! Here’s what the Word says…
“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, entreat you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called…” Ephesians 4:1
So, just in case you didn’t catch that – you’ve already been called. You don’t have to wait for the phone to ring. You don’t have to sit around and wait to see it what I’m telling you is true. You’ve already been called and it wasn’t for anybody else… It’s for you! The word means you’ve been invited. You’ve been invited to the kingdom of God and all its privileges. They’re all yours. Every last one of them.
Now, please understand me. You’re called just like everyone else in the body of Christ. You’re called into the family… you’re called into ministry… you’re called for purpose and by design. This is a high calling. Not your ordinary, everyday, run of the mill, hum drum, average, calling. This is the high calling of God to you. It’s nothing easy or light, and don’t let anybody tell you differently. It doesn’t mean that everybody is supposed to be a preacher, as if preachers are the only ones who get called of God. Untwist that in your mind. No, He call us all into ministry. That’s why it’s called the “priesthood of all believers.” We are all priest… We are all kingdom builders… We are all history makers… We are all world changers.. We are all gifted according to His Spirit… We are all called!
God has plans for all of us and although we don’t always know how His plans are going to end, let Him finish it, before you hang up on Him. What you need to do is be willing to listen and then obey His prompting. Being called doesn’t mean you stop being who you are; it simply means you are blessed at what you’re doing.
Here’s my word of encouragement for you today: He’s called you. Yes, you! He has plans for you. He wants to use you. He wants to use the gifts He’s invested in you. And He wants you to know this calling, this invitation is for you. Answer it!
You’ve called me by the Gospel. Help me to respond to Your calling and live it out in my life. In Jesus name I ask this, Amen.
