Remember the time you bought a car and it seemed like you were the only one who had a car of that model and color, only to buy it, drive it off the lot down the road, and see that exact same car everywhere you went?
Or remember the time you bought that new article of clothing and you were so looking forward to wearing it at your next outing. But when you arrived there was someone else there with the exact piece of clothing?
I being that up because I’ve been stuck on the rock that was rolled away from the tomb on Resurrection Day. Every day this week, in my Bible reading, I’ve read about, rocks, stones, boulders. I didn’t realize rocks played such an important role in the Bible. Let me tell you about today’s rocks and what I believe the Holy Spirit is trying to convey to us.
My reading today was from Joshua 10. Joshua is leading the valiant warriors of Israel across the land, conquering it. One king hears what’s happening, so he calls four other kings together to go up against Joshua and defeat him. Only God has different plans for the enemies of His people and defeats them.
The five kings tuck tail and run. They decide to all hid in a cave, but they didn’t go unnoticed. Joshua was asked what to do with them. He told the soldiers to “Roll large stones against the mouth of the cave…” Joshua 10:18
It wasn’t until all the enemies were conquered that Joshua and the warriors came back to this cave and Joshua told them to open it. He bought the five kings out in front of everybody, threw them on the ground, and said to the chiefs of the valiant warriors, “Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings…” Joshua 10:24. And they did. Then Joshua told them, “Do not fear or be dismayed! Be strong and courageous, for thus the LORD will do to all your enemies with whom you fight.” Joshua 10:25
Then the kings were killed and their bodies were thrown back into the cave where they had hidden themselves, “and put large stones over the mouth of the cave, to this very day.” Joshua 10:27
Here’s my word of encouragement for you today. I know your enemy is real and I know he’s trying to keep you from entering into your rightful inheritance. But he can’t stop you. As a matter of fact, he’s hiding from you, thinking he’ll just let some time pass by until you grow so weary of the fight that you’ll quit. But for now, you need to shut him up in the cave and take care of God’s business in your life. Then when you come back to let him out, step on his neck and know that God is fighting for you all the time and the enemy can’t hurt you. Then throw his dead ugly carrass back in the cave, throw the stones in front of the opening, and walk away in victory.
Sounds to easy? Here’s what Jesus said, “Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall injure you.” Luke 10:19
Let God be true and all men liars!
Help me roll that stone over my enemies. In Jesus name I ask this, Amen.
