Well, it’s been awhile, but I’m back. The last time I wrote to you, I was sitting in the Brisbane, Australia International Airport on my way to Papua New Guinea. I just returned last night from a three week stay there. I thought maybe today I’d tell you a few things about that trip because of what I read in my Bible this morning. Here it is…
“Sing praise to the LORD, you His godly ones, and give thanks to His holy name. For His anger is but for moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning… That my soul may sing praise to Thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to Thee forever.” Psalm 30:4-5, 12 NASB
I started my trip with some pastors and leaders of Via de Cristo (www.viadecristo.org) in Goroka, in the Eastern Highlands. We planned, prepared, taught and visioned for a refreshed new start to this wonderful ministry. Each night I taught a Bible for a couple of hundred people on “God’s Liberating Grace” using the book of Jonah as our baseline. It was a wonderful time.
Then I made my way back to a village in the mountains of Jiwaka province, called Nondugal. There is a pastoral training center there that I used for a base to train, equip, and encourage pastors from the Jiwaka and Chimbu provinces. I had created teaching materials which I call, Solid Ground, which are 13 elementary teachings of scripture, to give to these pastors, none of which have ever had the opportunity to attend a Bible College or Seminary, but each who have been called by God to serve Him and the people of their villages. We were blessed to have about 80 pastors join in.
After a week of training, I then traveled to the Western Highlands of PNG, and to my home base of many years, Kagamuga. There we did the same things as in Nondugal, using the elementary teachings of Solid Ground to inspire and enlighten the pastors. Another 40 pastors attended there. All in all, it was a blessed trip. They were richly blessed in the study of God’s Word and I was blessed to be in a position to bring it to them.
Plans are now underway to return this Fall to continue to teach Solid Ground to those pastors who did not attend this last visitation and to provide Higher Ground for the pastors who did.
Here’s my word of encouragement for you today: I had no idea how any of this was going to turn out, but simply walked by faith, knowing God had a bigger and better plan. He deserves all my praise. He has a bigger and better plan for you too. Trust Him today. Walk by faith and give a shout of joy in the morning!
I praise You for life, love, and joy in the morning. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
